等離子表面處理器與電暈的效果是差不多一樣的，只不過處理方式不一樣，電暈只能處理很薄的東西，如塑料膜一類的東西，要求處理物體積不能大了，用于寬面積處理。

其原理是利用高頻率高電壓在被處理的塑料表面電暈放電(高頻交流電壓高達5000-15000V/m2)，而產生低溫等離子體，（等離子表面處理）使塑料表面產生游離基反應而使聚合物發生交聯．表面變粗糙并增加其對極性溶劑的潤濕性-這些離子體由電擊和滲透進入被印體的表面破壞其分子結構，（等離子表面處理）進而將被處理的表面分子氧化和極化，離子電擊侵蝕表面，以致增加承印物表面的附著能力。

等離子處理機用于在線式處理，配到各種生產線上處理可以處理曲面表面。（等離子表面處理）對物體大小沒有局限性。兩種達到的效果是一樣的，只不過對被處理物來說那一種更適用。
